Four time Grammy nominee Angélique Kidjo is not only
one of the spunkiest, most electrifying performers in
the pop world today, but she's also one of its most
forward and creative thinkers, an artist whose mission
has been to explore the relationships of diverse
musical cultures and to bring attention to the social ills
plaguing the African continent, affecting women in
particular. Appointed by UNICEF Executive Director
Carol Bellamy, Kidjo has advocated on behalf of
children as a Goodwill Ambassador since 2002. But
Kidjo's commitment does not end there, she also
supports Keep A Child Alive (a donor-provided
antiretroviral (ARV) therapy program for children and
their families with HIV/AIDS in Africa and the rest of the
developing world), Oxfam (a confederation of 13
organizations working to find lasting solutions to
poverty and injustice), and the In My Name Campaign
(a global effort to end extreme poverty).
