Have you ever walked into a coffee shop, party, or restaurant and noticed them? Yeah, you know them. You never see them
without each other. They are the clique that is always together, laughing at each others’ jokes, and creating their own dance troupe
social functions. Women envy them. Men fear them.
.
And now I introduce myself ... the alleged Queen Bee of one such group. Our male friends have decided that my girls and I are the
modern day, female version of the Knights at the Round Table. Imagine our shock when a friend of ours say that he knows how we
operate when it comes to matters of the heart. Apparently, when one of us has met a guy we fancy, we have a discussion at our
round table. According to this friend, the lady in question presents a dossier to the rest of us, while we scan and analyze this
unfortunate man who deigns to make one of us his very own woman. We list his pros, his cons, his flaws, his faults, his goals, his
friends, etc and come to a decision—"Yay, you may date him" or "Nay, you may not date him." It is only after this elaborate process
that any one of us will go back to her man with an answer.
.
Give us a break, and a little credit. As though we have that kind of time or energy? I have heard many a guy complain about our
friendship, but the biggest and most worrisome comment I’ve heard is that no guy will want to date us because of this close-knit
sisterhood. I am normally not one to care what other people think, but I can’t help but wonder if there is some truth to this allusion,
mostly because out of our group, only one is in a serious relationship. I asked one guy to tell me why he thinks that we are un-
dateable—and his reasoning was that “[if I dated one of you,] I know everything I do will be dissected. I'll know they know everything
about me. What I say, what I do, how I kiss, how 'it's hangin', where I took her, how much dinner cost, etcetera.”
.
Do we actually talk about every single, teeny, tiny detail concerning our gentleman friends?
